American Express today announced that its Membership Rewards program members in the United States can soon start transferring their points to Avianca LifeMiles.
Avianca LifeMiles allows members to redeem their points online for flights with Star Alliance airlines and they tend to have almost never ending miles sales as well.
Here’s the announcement from Amex:
- The capability is rolling out in the U.S. later this month (November 2018)
- Avianca Airlines joins 17 other participating Membership Rewards® frequent flyer programs, including Delta, British Airways, and Emirates
- Avianca Airlines is the newest airline partner for Membership Rewards® since Aer Lingus was announced in August 2018
American Express knows Card Members want more ways to earn and redeem Membership Rewards® points with top merchants around the world. As customers are at the center of everything American Express does, the company is constantly expanding the capabilities of the Membership Rewards® program, in order to provide more value to Card Members.
Today, the Membership Rewards® program is in 21 countries worldwide and has:
The most points transfer travel partners of any major U.S. credit card loyalty program
The most airline point transfer partners in the U.S., with 16 at a 1:1 or better ratio
Avianca LifeMiles is useful Star Alliance program to have miles with, although it is one of the more trickier one at times. You cannot always ticket what you see online and sometimes the itineraries may “error out” during the ticketing process with very little recourse.
Let’s see if American Express and Avianca LifeMiles expand this partnership outside of the Membership Rewards program in the US.
