Yesterday John wrote about LATAM Pass status match to OneWorld Sapphire and Emerald for elite members on competitor alliances (in case you missed it, you can access it here). Today we got an email from a reader regarding LATAM’s requirement of proof of flights on their metal in the past 12 months.
After our post yesterday there were some questions about the previous/future LA flights requirement, especially if an upcoming booking on their metal would supersede the requirement of a previous flight.
Our reader Justin sent us an email this morning that clarifies the flight requirement issue. He sent LATAM a status match request with an upcoming flight booking but no proof of LA flights in the past 12 months. Here’s his email:
I am writing to update you with the status match with Latam.I used the format on your post and sent it to LATAM PASS with my CZ Gold (Skyteam Elite Plus – so far, as CZ is leaving skyteam on 01 Jan 19) and NZ Gold (Star Alliance Gold) and flight activities, received the following reply. I also provide LATAM I have a booking with them in Dec from AKL-SYD return.I have checked the google translate, the reply mentioned that: To be considered, I should at least have a flight with LATAM in the past 12 months. I believe this may be the requirement.Thank you for your time and sharing.
Here’s the email our reader got as an answer to his status match request:
Here’s the translation of the email:
Together with our greetings, we wanted to let you know that in order to be able to respond to your request, we need you to answer to this email, without modifying the subject, including the following information:
- Last flight taken with LATAM in the past 12 months.
We remind you that one of the requisites in order to study your status match request is to have taken at least one flight with LATAM in the past 12 months. Your match request cannot be processed if you haven’t taken this flight yet.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call us to our contact center.
We appreciate if you send us the requested information as soon as possible.

LATAM’s answer is clear. Besides confirming they will consider status matches, they also confirm the status match request won’t be processed without proof of a flight with them in the past 12 months. For the rest, color me impressed our reader got an answer in less than 24 hours! All the other airlines could learn from this!
