Marriott made a news dump on Friday that their Starwood reservation database had been compromised and 500,000,000 reservation records had been leaked (read more here).
Marriott promised to start informing affected members by email on the same day (European GDPR regulation requires companies to inform within 72 hours) and I just received the notice below (no new news).
You can access Marriott’s website here.
Here’s the email from Marriott:
This database infringement started in 2014 that predates Marriott’s purchase of the hotel company the following year. It, however, continued for several years under their watch. You can expect class action lawsuits and governments looking into this for the next couple of years.
The word that Marriott uses on the email “incident” tries to downplay the severity of this hack.
