Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) launched Choice Benefit-award first to those that reached 50 nights and later introduced second option at 75 nights. Members could choose from variety of gifts from Suite Night Awards (SNA) to free night certificates.
Marriott Rewards introduced this to the combined program this year and changed the gift options that members could choose when reaching 50 and 75 nights (read more here). Members have until January 14 to make their selections or Marriott will choose the SNAs by default.
You can access Marriott’s page for Choice Benefit here.
The problem that our readers have faced since Tuesday last week is that the the page has not allowed them to make the selection. Now, Marriott has updated the page to be under “Maintenance” whatever that means while the deadline for selecting the gift is only a week away.
Well. One could say that the entire Marriott Rewards/SPG program has been under “maintenance” ever since the program merger took place on August 18th considering all the issues we are still facing five months later.
Here Marriott Rewards is angering its most active members that have stayed at 50 or 75 nights in 2018.
One could say that why these members haven’t made their selections earlier? Some may have wanted to wait until the end of the year when they know exactly the number of nights they stayed at for the year as one of the gift options is 5 bonus nights (could be worthwhile for those that are close to 75 nights and Platinum Premier status).
Let’s hope that this “Maintenance” issue is resolved before Marriott just chooses SNAs as the default for everyone that IMHO is the worst option.
