StayVancouver (formerly beVancouver) has launched its popular seasonal promotion for up to C$125 off the first night and C$50 off each additional one for stays until April 30, 2019.
The stayVancouver promo is run by Vancouver Hotel Destination Association (VHDA) – group of 35 hotels in the city. Their goal is to drive more business during the low season and promote Vancouver hotels by offering these discounts.

The rate booked through StayVancouver is prepaid through the website and there have been conflicting reports over the years how the stays are seen in terms of receiving a stay credit and points for them. If you book one of the hotels that are part of a loyalty program I wouldn’t expect to receive points or stay credit – nice if it happens but otherwise take the gift card and see it as offset.
Note that you will get an Amex gift card at the beginning of your stay for the first and any subsequent nights off. You can use the gift card to pay for expenses in the city.
Even though American Express is involved in this promotion as the gift card partner you can use any other credit card to pay for the hotel.
Conclusion
I really like this promotion as it often reduces the daily rate substantially and the Amex gift card can be used very universally at all stores and restaurants that accept American Express.
Another way to bring down the cost of your hotel is by using Virtuoso or Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts as Platinum / Centurion cardholder as those usually include a $100 credit for F&B/Spa and daily breakfast.
