Delta Air Lines just greatly devalued one of their priced partnerships with airport security fast track operator CLEAR where Skymiles members were able to benefit from steep discount until this week.
With security lines steadily creeping up exceeding hour long wait times and TSA PreCheck Lines growing as well due to random selection of passengers, CLEAR Security went on an expansion course in recent years, opening lanes at ever more terminals U.S. nationwide.
The company has been a long term partner with Delta Air Lines, which also uses the technology to allow access to SkyClubs if a member wishes to register for that. As such, CLEAR and Delta had very good preferential pricing agreements for Delta Skymiles customers who wish to sign up for the full service.
Delta has semi published the bad news in their news portal where it reads:
Delta SkyMiles Members without an existing CLEAR membership who enroll in CLEAR on or after April 5, 2019 will be offered the exclusive rates below (see screenshot). …
Annual pricing for all Members who enrolled in CLEAR prior to April 5, 2019 will remain as per sign up.
If you are already a Delta SkyMiles Member who enrolled in CLEAR prior to April 5, 2019, you will continue to retain your current rate upon annual renewal if your SkyMiles program Status remains the same. Additionally, if your program Status changes at any point, but you had a CLEAR membership prior to April 5, 2019, you will still have access to the previous pricing structure.
For example, if you are a Silver Medallion Member who enrolled in CLEAR on August 5, 2018, when your membership is up for renewal on August 5, 2019, you will still be offered the $79 annual rate. If on February 1, 2020, you no longer have Silver Medallion Status and become a General Member, you will be offered the $99 rate when your membership is up for renewal on August 5, 2020, if at that time you are a General Member. Because you first enrolled in CLEAR prior to April 5, 2019, you would be offered the $99 annual rate for General Members instead of the $119 annual rate for General Members.
You can access the CLEAR website for SkyMiles members here.
Hertz members can also enjoy preferential pricing as well as several months free of charge (Presidents Circle Members receive 4 Months free right off the bat and $129 per year thereafter). You can access the signup for Hertz-CLEAR here.
I wonder whether Delta or CLEAR revoked the membership discount as it was before. At least Delta Diamonds are still allowed to profit from the established free annual membership.
It’s still a decent discount but nothing spectacular anymore. It was a no brainer in my opinion to sign up for $79 but $109 I’m not so sure anymore.
