Delta SkyMiles Silver, Gold & Platinum Status Match

Was surprised to see that Delta is running a campaign on Facebook trying to get elite members from other airlines to match their status.

Delta Air Lines SkyMiles Status Match

Many airlines offer status matches with a fast track to get other elite fliers to try their product and continue to fly if they like what they see.

You can access Delta’s page for status match here.

Note that you should sign up for the challenge on or after July 1, 2019. If you complete challenge then, the status is valid through January 2021. Otherwise it expires at the end of January 2020.

You can do the required flights on Delta, Delta Connection and SkyTeam Alliance airlines.

Here are the requirements for the match:

  • You have not received a Status Match or complimentary Medallion Status in the past three years, unless the complimentary Medallion Status was through your Million Miler Status

  • You currently have elite status with a qualifying airline that was earned through that airline’s published requirements (complimentary status or status earned through a promotion does not qualify)

  • You are able to present both a valid, current elite credential and a statement showing your earned elite status

Here are the status requirements:

You must meet the MQM (Medallion Qualifying Miles) or MQS (Medallion Qualifying Segments) and MQD (Medallion Qualifying Dollars) requirements unless you have a waiver for the latter.

Here are the programs that Delta matches from:

Note that you can apply for a match from a program that is not listed above.

Conclusion

Never seen any other airline running a campaign on Facebook trying to get elites from other carriers to switch, although Delta doesn’t offer a match to their highest Diamond status.

Delta offers interim status for a three month period during which you need to fulfill the requirements to keep it (hopefully) through January 31, 2021.

Here are the terms and conditions of this promotion:

Offer valid for travel completed within 3 months from time of account upgrade and will not include flights taken prior to enrollment. Participation does not guarantee Medallion Status. Promotional or temporary elite status on other airlines will not be eligible for this promotion. Matched Status will expire after 3 months, unless that level or a higher level of Medallion Status is awarded prior to that date. Medallion Status must be earned in subsequent years by traveling the required amount of MQMs or MQSs and spending the required MQDs (U.S.-based members only) or earning the MQD Waiver. Only MQMs, MQSs and MQDs earned through travel on Delta, Delta Connection, and SkyMiles Partner Airlines will count towards the challenge. MQMs/MQSs/MQDs earned through other sources, including but not limited to SkyMiles Credit Cards, do not count towards the challenge. Visit Partner Airlines to learn more about what flights qualify. Travel on Award Tickets does not qualify for this offer.

*The MQDs requirement will be waived if you achieve the MQD Waiver. The MQD Waiver can be earned for Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallion Status for the Status Match Challenge if you make $25,000 or more in eligible purchases with your eligible Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express. The timing for achieving the MQD Waiver for this challenge is as follows:

If your 3-month challenge period begins and ends in the same calendar year (for example, begins on 8/1/19 and ends on 11/1/19), you must achieve the MQD Waiver between January 1 of that calendar year and the end of your challenge period. In this example, you would have from 1/1/19 through 11/1/19 to achieve the MQD Waiver.

If your 3-month challenge period falls between two calendar years (for example, begins on 11/1/19 and ends on 2/1/20), you can reach the MQD Waiver through either of the following two options:

  • Option 1: the MQD Waiver will apply if you earn it at any time during the first calendar year. In this example, you would have from 1/1/19 through 12/31/19 to achieve the MQD Waiver
  • Option 2: the MQD Waiver will apply if you earn it between the beginning of the second calendar year and the end of your challenge period. In this example, you would have from 1/1/20 through 2/1/20 to achieve the MQD Waiver.

Meeting either of the two options listed waives the MQD requirement for this challenge. You cannot combine your MQD Waiver spend between the two years. Remember, your MQD Waiver spend resets on January 1 each calendar year, and is not combined with any of your MQD Waiver spend from the previous year.

Members who earn Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallion Status beyond the 3 month period through this promotion will be updated in the system within five business days of completing the requirements. Members who successfully complete the Status Match Challenge are eligible for Rollover MQMs based on their earned Medallion Status.

  1. Just had a successful match from Turkish – got Platinum status, literally within 3 days. I used to be Platinum, many years in a row, until I lost it, since I stopped flying SkyTeam.

The match was no questions asked, right away – I need to take 2 trips which will allow me to keep it.
