IHG Rewards Club Elite & Inner Circle Raid The Bar And Welcome Points

A LoyaltyLobby reader dropped us a note about a change what Inner Circle members receive as their elite benefits at Kimpton Hotels.

Kimpton Amsterdam Amenity

Inner Circle was the highest Karma tier before the program was integrated into IHG Rewards Club. Now this level is part of IHG’s Spire Elite.

Here’s the statement that we received from the IHG spokesperson:

Since Inner Circle is an extension of Spire Elite, Kimpton has added an option to the IHG Rewards Club Elite Welcome Amenity for Inner Circle members. Where the Elite Welcome Amenity, when staying at a Kimpton Hotel, has been “Raid the Bar” (a $10 US credit* toward a drink or snack at the bar or something from the in room mini-bar), we recently added an option to choose Raid the Bar or Welcome Points (600 for Spire and Platinum Elite and 400 for Gold  Elite) at check-in. *varies by region

Inner Circle members also receive an in-room amenity (called the Inner Circle Amenity), based on their Inner Circle personal preferences. This is a beloved, legacy Inner Circle perk and is still delivered for all Inner Circle members. “Welcome amenity” was the name used when Inner Circle was part of Kimpton Karma Rewards. That may have caused some confusion in this instance.

The Inner Circle experience remains unchanged at Kimpton, other than the addition of a choice for their Spire Elite Welcome Amenity.

Conclusion

It seems that the only change is that elite members can now choose between 400 ($2) or 600 ($3) IHG Rewards Club points OR Raid the Bar-credit. Inner Circle members are still eligible for an additional in-room amenity.

Having three different elite programs (Ambassador, Inner Circle and IHG Rewards Club) within one chain certainly creates unnecessary confusion among members and hotel employees.
