This week the Compensation Clinic-case comes from a stay at the Westin Turtle Bay Resort in Mauritius.
You can read more about Marriott Bonvoy arrival gift guarantee here:
The Westin Turtle Bay Resort in Mauritius failed to offer at the time of checking in an arrival gift choice that is available for Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador members.
Per the guarantees, a member then is eligible for a $100 cash compensation.
As I have previously pointed out, hotels are more eager either:
1. Deduct the $100 from your folio expenses that is not the best choice for those on expense accounts or who wish to earn the points for the spend.
2. Give you a number of points instead as a compensation. Just remember that hotels pay $60 for every 10,000 points issued as a compensation.
I negotiated 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy point deposit to my account instead of $100 in cash.
There is often an issue with these bonus/compensation points postings from hotels now that there is very little enforcement and follow up from the Marriott customer service.
I was glad that the Westin Turtle Bay Resort promptly posted the 30,000 points without me having to chase them up (that is unfortunately often the case).
