World of Hyatt “Double Up With M life Rewards” Promotion For Stays Between August 18 – October 10, 2019

World of Hyatt has published their new Double Up promotion for Q3 of 2019 and this time members can earn additional MGM M life Elite Tier credits on top of double Hyatt points.

Double World of Hyatt base points will apply to all members who register and those participating in M life will receive eight M life Rewards Tier Credits posted to their account.

This promotion entitles registered members to stay at any participating Hyatt hotel between August 18, 2019 and October 10, 2019 and earn both World of Hyatt Base Points and M life Rewards Tier Credits.

You can access Hyatt’s registration website here.

These are the participating hotels/brands:

Double Dip promotion is valid at participating hotels in the following brands: Park Hyatt, Miraval, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt, Hyatt Ziva, Hyatt Zilara, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Hyatt Residence Club, Andaz, Alila, Thompson Hotels, Hyatt Centric, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, and Joie de Vivre.

What do members receive from this promotion?

… you’ll earn eight M life Rewards Tier Credits, plus five World of Hyatt Base Points for each eligible dollar you spend.

This is pretty much a replica of the double points promotion Hyatt has run before. I liked the Q2 promotion better (1k points per night) but I guess it’s better than nothing.

The M life component of this promotion might be the least useful to most members for multiple reasons.

Hyatt had a partnership with MGM M life (I previously wrote about it here) and Explorist as well as Globalist members can match their status to M life Gold. For this level, one would need 75,000 tier credits with M life when collecting those at MGM properties.

The next higher level – Platinum – requires 200,000 tier credits and can no longer be obtained through Hyatt since 2017. The benefits are rather sparse anyway, so not much loss there. You can use M life Gold for the most essential services in Las Vegas and other M life destinations. Mostly, this is line cutting when using the dedicated Invited Guest/Elite line at the front desk, restaurants and player clubs.

Assuming someone has M life Gold from Hyatt, you’d still need 200,000 credits for Platinum. That requires serious turnover (coin in) of funds at MGM properties. Considering this promotion would get you 8 tier credits per US$ spent you can do the math how useful the promotion will be. For someone who does engage in some gaming, however, maybe it’s a nice little extra if they are on the fence between Gold and Platinum.

Conclusion

I’m already quite happy that Hyatt has a promotion at all this quarter, even if it’s just a double points one. The M life credits in my case are quite good to create some activity on my account. I received M life status through an invite several years ago and so far it has never been downgraded. I always had some activity though (~20k tier credits per year) that derives mostly from hotel room revenue in Las Vegas and some very basic gaming activities. This promo will help me to top it up a little.
