This week the Compensation Clinic-case comes from a reader’s stay at the Hyatt Regency John Wayne Airport hotel in Newport Beach, California. This hotel was previously a Radisson.

Here’s the email from a reader:
Friday night, August 2nd, I was staying at the Hyatt Regency across the street from SNA. Unfortunately they had a power outage. Saturday morning they gave everyone a free breakfast, a $25.00 value. As a globalist they gave me 8,000 points. That’s enough for a free night there. The power outage was completely beyond their control.
I just wanted to put in a good word for this great hotel.
For once it was not a complicated case, rather it was one that the hotel resolved proactively for all the guests (not just elites) and didn’t just blame an unrelated third party (power company) as they usually do. I wish that all the hotels would work the same way as this Hyatt did.
I have been at hotels numerous times when there have been a sudden area/citywide power outages in South America and Asia. Most branded hotels have generators ready to go live and you lose electricity for perhaps a second before everything is again up and running normally.
