A few months ago IHG Rewards Club has changed from paper to electronic certificates for their Ambassador Free Weekend Night and deposited one into the member’s online account.
The paper certificates have been causing both members and IHG a lot of headaches over the years, as it often took months to be actually delivered to the members address following the purchase of the annual Ambassador membership.
If the member was planning to use the certificate in the meanwhile, he’d often be in limbo wondering if the certificate would arrive in time and more often than not it wouldn’t.
A few months ago suddenly the electronic certificates suddenly popped up in the online account after announcing this move earlier this year.
You can access InterContinental’s web page for Ambassador program here.
The link that InterContinental refers you to go to book the 2-4-1 rate is InterContinental.com/AMBweekend. You can, however, use this link. No logging in to your IHG Rewards Club/Ambassador account is required.
Last weekend I stayed at the Intercontinental Singapore, where I used the certificate and since we had the conversation going if the certificates can be used double I decided to submit the paper certificate first.
Turned out that it would invalidate the online certificate as well:
I was quite surprised that IHG finally got their IT at least somewhat under control. Fair enough, especially when considering that my Ambassador expires soon. I’d likely not have been able to use a second certificate either way.
This will makes peoples life a lot easier now that these certificates are stored online. Buy/extend the Ambassador and it’s done, ready to use right away.
It’s especially a good deal if you tend to book premium suites at any of these properties. You can easily save the $200 sign up fee most of the time in just one stay. The certificate states that it is not available for suites. Many properties have this rate plan loaded for them as well, however.
