It seems that not only are Marriott Bonvoy members confused with the 70+ page long terms and conditions governing the program, but so are the Marriott employees manning their Twitter account.
A reader tagged us in a Tweet earlier this week when the hotel and Marriott Bonvoy were trying to stonewall them from getting points for a reservation made through American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts (Amex FHR) program.
Marriott Bonvoy incorrectly stated on Twitter that these Amex FHR reservations would NOT be eligible for points in their own program because you already earn Membership Rewards points in the process.
This is simply incorrect.
Prepaid reservations made on Amex Travel website are considered third party when it comes to hotels’ own loyalty program points and benefits. Reservations made through Amex FHR or Virtuoso, however, are not. You can stack benefits and earn points and elite qualifying nights/stays in the process.
It is very unfortunate that Marriott Bonvoy’s official Twitter account is not aware of their own program rules and are spinning incorrect information.
I use these outside programs every once in a while, when the extra benefits are worth paying (usually) the best flexible rate like, tonight when my suite booking includes space available upgrade and a $200 F&B credit.
