American Express Membership Rewards (U.S.) has yet another very lucrative “Amex Offer” of 20,000 Membership Rewards points for spending US$1000 on ANA All Nippon Airways Tickets.
From time to time there are quite interesting offers around related to airline ticket purchases requiring a minimum spend for a certain amount of points.
This offer is especially interesting because the amount of points is high with 20,000 and represents a substantial value if used right (I’d say ~$450).

ENROLLMENT/ELIGIBLE CARDS: Enrollment limited. Must first add offer to Card and then use same Card to redeem. Only U.S.-issued American Express® Cards that are enrolled in the Membership Rewards® program at the time of purchase are eligible. Limit 1 enrolled Card per Card Member across all American Express offer channels. Your enrollment of an eligible American Express Card for this offer extends only to that Card. Your enrollment does not extend to any other Cards that may be linked to the same Membership Rewards program account (such as Additional Cards). Offer is non-transferable.
ELIGIBLE PURCHASES: Offer valid for airfare purchases made directly with ANA, All Nippon Airways through www.fly-ana.com U.S. website, U.S. ANA app, and U.S. reservation telephone line: 1-800-235-9262. Flights must originate in the U.S., including U.S. territories and purchases must be in U.S. dollars to qualify. Excludes the following: (i) in-flight purchases of WiFi, entertainment, or phone service, (ii) standalone hotel bookings and car rentals, (iii) purchases through third parties or affiliated agents, (iv) code share flights or ANA flights operated by partner airlines, (v) duty free shopping and orders, (vi) travel insurance/trip protection, Mobile Rental Service, and Bid My Price. Purchases may fall outside of the offer period in some cases due to a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction (for example, the purchase date for online orders may be the shipping date). If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the additional points. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the additional Membership Rewards points if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party. EARNING POINTS: Limit of 20,000 additional Membership Rewards points per Card Member. The enrolled Card account must be active, not be past due, canceled or have a returned payment outstanding to receive the additional Membership Rewards points. Any additional points you receive through this offer are in addition to the points you would normally receive for purchases charged to your Card, but the number of additional points you receive will be based on the purchase price after any credit or other discount is applied. When we calculate the additional points benefit for Amex EveryDay® Card products, points awarded under this offer will not be included. Additional points will be credited to your Membership Rewards program account within 90 days after 12/1/2019, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. We may not credit additional points to, or we may take away additional points that have been credited to, your program account if the qualifying purchase is returned/cancelled.
Considering the very low Economy Class (and at times business class) fares at the moment it’s possible to combine these offers with a great opportunity of earning an additional 20,000 Membership Rewards points which I had on my Gold Charge Card.
This should also apply if you pay taxes for an award ticket issued by ANA USA and depending on the itinerary those taxes can be substantial. Especially when booking the popular Round The World ticket in Business Class for 145,000 miles (+ tax). Those taxes can easily exceed $1000 with ANA and to get a 20k points relief is a great discount.
Thanks to these Amex offers customers can rack up a substantial amount of savings and extra points over the year. That’s especially important because Amex charge cards don’t offer particularly attractive earning ratios apart from Airlines tickets and – in case of the Gold Card – restaurants. My Charge Card is being used exclusively for those purchases. Anything else goes on my Chase Sapphire Reserve.
Check out your Amex accounts and see if you’re targeted for this ANA / MR Points offer. In some cases depending on the card type the offer can also be a fix $ amount off as a refund.
