IHG Rewards Club launched an offer for instant Spire Elite and bonus points for employees of select large corporate accounts.
We first wrote about this offer when it became available (read more here), then when the promo links were up (read more here), and I already have1,000 bonus points posted for this promotion (read more here). Readers are reporting some issues, however.
A reader sent us the screenshot above that they had received from IHG downgrading the Spire Elite status.
Another reader sent us the following message:
I registered Instant Spire last Friday via your link, an email sent to me to confirm I was successfully enrolled. I went to my account and saw my status still Pt, but the offer is valid.
I supposed it would update in one or two days.
From tomorrow I will stay in one Intercontinental for 5 days, of course I want to use this privilege. However it shocked me the offer was gone today.
The promo has now gone from my offers as well (check yours here). I believe it was gone before the last stay posted, but the promotional points were included.
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do unless you work for one of the eligible companies.
It makes sense to sign up for these offers and see what happens (not just with IHG). Sometimes they end up working whole other times not. No harm trying, right?
IHG used to go after some members that signed up for multiple overlapping offers and closed accounts. This was when you could combine various stay promotions and rack up a very high number of points in a few stays. I have not heard any such closure activity as of late.
