Today we have a Reader Question from a German frequent flyer who just re-qualified for Lufthansa Senator (Star Alliance Gold) and was wondering about the display of his status on the website.
Lufthansa Miles&More is a very particular program when it comes to the qualification and extension of membership status as the hurdle (35,000 Miles for Frequent Traveller, 100,000 Miles for Senator) seem quite high though the status is good for two years and members can qualify for yet another two year right away in the following membership year.
This often leads to confusion with members as Lufthansa doesn’t display the status extension properly or in the very least quite confusing.
could you give me some info about Lufthansa MM and their status system? I qualified again this year with over 100k status miles flown and yet the MM website doesn’t show any of this. Should I call them? When do I get my upgrade vouchers?
Indeed he is right to ask that because Lufthansa Miles&More doesn’t display the expiry date of the most recent status anymore for quite some time now.
Instead it now looks like this:
The requalification is possible twice in a row but then the member has a so called “dead period” where no status extension is possible irrespective of how many miles are being accumulated.
Members also receive a set of 2 electronic upgrade vouchers for each qualification. Traditionally those have been credited to the members accounts in late November. Sometimes though it has been early January and it’s hard to put a finger on their system.
Miles&More will send out a membership card in due time, however members in Germany who have a credit card that doubles as member card usually receive theirs the fastest. The cards with status all expire in February so in between November and January all cards are being exchanged if there is a change / extension in status.
I wish Miles&More would make their displays easier for people. Their strange time periods for voucher deposit and card renewal is also not contributing to better understanding from the customer.
It has been this way for quite some time now, I wonder however if LH will keep this model alive or switch to annual qualification like most of the competition!?
