Reminder: Marriott 50 Nights Choice Benefit Selection – No Emails From Marriott, Proceed On Your Own!

We’d like to update readers on the matter of how to select your Marriott Choice Benefit after reaching 50/75 nights as apparently the program still doesn’t email members to invite them to the selection.

As the year comes to a close it’s the time when many members get close to or have already reached their annual qualification level of 50+ nights for Marriott status and this topic comes up frequently.

I’m not sure why Marriott Rewards isn’t finally fixing this and starts sending out emails to members with the appropriate link to the site where it’s possible to make the selection.

You can access Marriott’s page for Choice Benefit here.

For the last year members originally had until January 14th to make their selections or Marriott would deposit the 5 SNAs into the account by default.

What can members select?

An exclusive benefit is all yours when you stay at least 50 eligible nights.* Annual Choice Benefit options include:

  • Five Elite Night Credits
  • 40% off your favorite hotel bed
  • Marriott Bonvoy™ Silver Elite status for a friend or family member
  • US$100 donation to UNICEF
  • Five Suite Night Awards™

At 75 eligible nights, earn another Annual Choice Benefit with two more options: a Free Night Award or Gold Elite status for a friend or family member.

When it comes to the choices what to select is actually a personal choice and obviously dependent on what use the member has for the additional five elite night credits. Does it help to reach the next level (Titanium) or would it not make a dent?

Also, some people confirmed that the five nights apparently counted into their lifetime nights so this could be an incentive for some (myself included) to choose the five nights over the Suite Night awards.

The bedding is frequently on sale and I’m not sure if the discounts are stackable, Bonvoy Silver is pretty useless and a $100 donation to Unicef would probably be better if you actually make the donation yourself in cash and have it as a tax deductible. In the end the decision is yours!

Conclusion

I’ll likely not re-qualify for Titanium this year (still need 24 nights or 19 after selecting the 5 credits) so the Suite Night Awards might make most sense to me in case I stay at some hotels where I’d like to definitely secure a suite next year. This mostly concerns properties that don’t have many suites, not so much a city property.

On the other hand I’m currently on the way to Lifetime Platinum with 430 nights so the more nights I can add towards the 600 the quicker it will be. Considering I also have the SPG Amex I’d otherwise wait another 2-3 years either way.
