Le Club AccorHotels Closes Places App May 28, 2020

Le Club AccorHotels launched its Places App back in 2013 (read more here) that allowed members to collect badges and bonus points for checking in to hotels where they were staying at.

As I noted in my recent piece (read more here), it was clear that the app hadn’t been updated for a while. Accor has now announced that the app will close for new installations effective today and for good on May 28.

You can access Le Club AccorHotels Places App here.

Conclusion

This was a good implementation and an idea back in 2013, but doubt that many would like to share their check-ins using a Facebook integrated app in 2019 considering possible privacy and other issues/violations.

I hope that Accor brings back something similar perhaps that is integrated to their native app itself once the ALL is launched.

Existing Place App users can check-in and continue collecting bonus points through May 28, 2020.

Until it is removed from the stores, the Places app will be updated. Consequently, the hotels that are participating in Places may change (be added or removed) until that date. However, as from 28th November, which is the planned date for withdrawal from the stores, the app will no longer be updated. A list of hotels participating in Places on 28th November will be updated and posted here (www.endplacesaccor.com). This list will be valid until the app is discontinued; we suggest that you refer to it when choosing your hotel. NB if a hotel no longer participates in the Accor Group loyalty programme after 28th November, then this hotel will still be displayed in the app but will generate a refused Places Check-In. Moreover, all new hotels or brands that join the loyalty programme after 28th November will not be eligible for Places.
