IHG Rewards Club Spire Elite Status Extensions For Ambassador Renewals Or Sign Ups

IHG Rewards Club launched a much-awaited top tier Spire Elite status back in 2015 (read more here) with a promise of new benefits that would soon be introduced but which never materialized.

Spire Elite usually requires either 75 consumed nights or 75,000 qualifying points in a calendar year. Once you have achieved the status, it is rather easy to extend; however, without meeting the official criteria.

You can access IHG’s page for elite befits here and buying an Ambassador here.

Here are the elite benefits matrix:

You earn 100% bonus and Gift Choice when renewing Spire Elite over Platinum and theoretically higher upgrade priority.

Here are my IHG totals for 2019:

I have not met the Spire Elite requirements for 2019, yet the status is valid through the end of 2020

Buying or renewing InterContinental Ambassador

IHG extends the Spire Elite status when you purchase or renew InterContinental Ambassador, which comes with its own set of benefits that only apply for IC stays such as confirmed 4 PM late check out AND one category upgrade plus free weekend night voucher.

Conclusion

This is the easiest way to extend your IHG Rewards Club Spire Elite status, which doesn’t cost anything IF you have any InterContinental stays during your Ambassador-year considering the on-property benefits.

The most crucial benefit of Spire Elite is earning a 100% bonus on base points instead of 50% for Platinums.
