Just a day after the most recent Buy AAdvantage Miles promotion ended the program has opened a new campaign with up to 70% bonus on buying or gifting miles until January 5, 2020.
Earlier today I wrote about an Award Success where I managed to simultaneously buy miles and book an award on the phone with AAdvantage.

To reach the maximum bonus of 70% one has to purchase a minimum of 100,000 miles which is the sweet spot of this promo:
The price of a mile purchased under this offer at the 100,000 miles level (170,000 with bonus) is 1.8 US cents each. The lowest price that American has sold its miles during the last sale has been 1.78 US cents each so during this sale it’s slightly more expensive at that 100k level though almost identical.
These American Airlines AAdvantage miles aren’t cheap per se and it only makes sense to purchase them if one is able to book an award ticket that provides a substantial benefits over whats available on the open market.
The award I outlined earlier would be such an example as the retail price were extremely high and other alternatives (paid tickets) rather inconvenient compared to the direct flights. Hence it was worth to spend a rather large sum of money on the miles. That’s a nice case though.

AAdvantage members must purchase at least 12,000 miles in a single transaction from the Buy or Gift Miles program from 7:00:00am CT December 9, 2019 to 11:59:59pm CT January 5, 2020, to be eligible to earn bonus miles.
AAdvantage members must complete a transfer transaction of at least 6,000 miles beginning 12:00am CT November 5, 2019 to 11:59:59pm CT December 15, 2019 to be eligible for a discount.
Transactions are nonrefundable and nonreversible. The miles successfully purchased usually post to the designated account right away, but please allow up to 8 hours for processing. Prices are in U.S. dollars and do not include taxes or the applicable per transaction processing charge. Miles purchased, transferred or received as a gift do not count toward elite-status qualification. Members may purchase for themselves or receive as a gift, a maximum combined total of 150,000 AAdvantage® miles in a calendar year. The miles purchased with the Buy Miles program and received with the Gift Miles program do not count towards AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum Pro, AAdvantage Executive Platinum or AAdvantage Million MilerSM status qualification. You can check your balance online by logging on to www.aa.com. Buy Miles or Gift Miles transactions are non-refundable, non-transferable and non-exchangeable. A confirmation email will be sent to the primary buyer/gifter and/or recipient using the email address(es) associated with the AAdvantage account(s) and any additional email address provided. If a transaction is voided or cancelled please note the funds were not charged to your credit card, however your credit card company may place a hold on the fund/credit for 24-72 hours. All AAdvantage miles are sold in US dollars.

Any AAdvantage miles transferred in excess of such amount will not be posted to the member’s account, regardless whether payment has been remitted for such AAdvantage miles, and American Airlines has no obligation to reimburse such remitted amounts. The miles transferred with the Transfer Miles program do not count towards AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum Pro, AAdvantage Executive Platinum or Million MilerSM status qualification.
