A passenger on a United Airlines flight from San Francisco to Atlanta had a horrible encounter with a scorpion that stung her multiple times in the leg.
Exotic animals find their way onto a plane in multiple avenues but most often they get onboard through other passengers carry on baggage.
TMZ first reported about the incident on Sunday after it became public that one passenger was hospitalized:
United responded to the situation in a statement to TMZ as follows:
… “After learning that one of our customers on flight 1554 from San Francisco to Atlanta was stung during flight, our crew responded immediately and consulted with a MedLink physician on the ground who provided medical guidance. Upon landing in Atlanta, the flight was met by medical personnel and the customer was transported to a local hospital. We have been in contact with our customer to ensure her wellbeing.”
Over the years there have been multiple instanced where passengers reported ants, rodents and snakes on a plane, some encounters ended with injuries.
I’d be interested at what point in flight the incident occurred considering the flight continued to it’s final destination in Atlanta where paramedics were waiting. I’d have expected the flight to make an emergency landing at a suitable airport but maybe it was the final stage of the flight already.
In any case it was mentioned that the flight deck received instructions from their medical service MedLink that is used to advise crew about inflight medical emergencies.
