British Airways 50% Off Shanghai, Seoul & Atlanta Award Sale (Book By December 17)

British Airways has launched a new economy award sale for Executive Club members that can save 50% on the number of Avios required on three routes.

Members can redeem to/from Shanghai, Seoul, and Atlanta, starting at less than 10,000 Avios each way off-peak. You must book by December 17, and the offer is valid for travel through the end of schedule 2020.

You can access this offer on BA’s website here.

Here’s the number of Avios required:

These are not exactly cheap, however:

The full airline taxes, fees and Carrier charges will apply per person, per flight and payment and are payable in cash. For example, $354.11 (£273.55) for Boston to London Heathrow, and £264.32 ($342.16) for London Heathrow to Boston. When booking reward flights, you can choose peak dates, off-peak dates, or a mixture of the two.

Awards on British Airways flights using Avios are, in reality, deeply discounted paid tickets without mileage or tier points considering the sometimes rather ridiculous cash outlay.

I have found these discounted awards to be useful, usually for one-way travel (did one last year during a discount campaign from Hong Kong).

Here are the terms and conditions of this promotion:

Bookings can be made via the British Airways Executive Club (BAEC) using your BAEC membership number. Bookings must be made between 11 December 2019 and 17 December 2019 for travel within 355 days, from the date of booking. For example, if you book on 11 December 2019, travel must be completed by 30 November 2020. If you book on 17 December 2019, travel must be completed by 6 December 2020. This offer applies to both peak and off-peak Avios prices and can be booked by any British Airways Executive Club member logged into their account and with a sufficient Avios balance.

The required amount of Avios for reward flights in World Traveller cabin (economy) travelling to or from London Heathrow will be reduced by 50%.

The 50% discount on Avios is available on direct one-way and return British Airways operated flights in the World Traveller cabin only.

Example Avios prices shown are for a return journey on both peak and off-peak dates.

The relevant savings will appear after you have chosen your flights and will be relative to your Avios balance.

Avios are issued and redeemed in accordance with Avios Tems and Conditions. For full details visit

All flights are subject to the notice and conditions of contract contained on each ticket or itinerary, the Executive Club terms and conditions and British Airways conditions of carriage apply.
