Marriott Bonvoy has launched a new offer for American Airlines AAdvantage member stays in select cities through March 31, 2020.
The offer is valid for stays minimum of two nights at participating hotels in Chicago, Dallas, New York City, Los Angeles, and Mexico City, and must be booked using promotional code MR6.

Conclusion
It usually makes more sense to collect hotel loyalty program points for stays than directly miles. You can always convert them with other promotional points that you may have earned.
The only time this could make sense, earning miles outright, if you have no other planned Marriott stays in the foreseeable future.
