Singapore Airlines and Mastercard have come up with a new Priceless promotion for their route between Bangkok and Singapore, offering customers in Economy Class who paid with Mastercard a space available free Business Class upgrade on the day of departure.
The promotion came via email to the account registered under my KrisFlyer membership and it doesn’t provide a public link to a landing page. I wasn’t able to find anything on SIA’s Thailand website or on the Mastercard page either.
What the email essentially says is:
Stand a chance to travel in Business Class from Bangkok to Singapore when you purchase the ticket on singaporeair.com and pay with Mastercard® from now till 31 March 2020.
- Complimentary upgrade to Business Class provided to eligible passenger in partnership with Mastercard Priceless Experience program. Limited to flights SQ981 and SQ983, on space availability basis.
- Miles accrued will remain unchanged as per original Economy Class booking.
- Restricted to tickets issued for travel originating from Bangkok to Singapore only.
- Eligible for passengers who purchase Singapore Airlines ticket on Economy Class (except redemption and K booking classes). Other terms and conditions apply.
So in theory purchasing the following with a Mastercard should make me eligible:
It’s a V Class going to SIN and K coming back. Since the promotion only concerns the inbout flight it should be fine. I didn’t see any notice about this campaign when I went all the way to the payment page though.
Keep in mind that the eligible flights SQ981 & SQ983 are the most undesirable flight times they have each day, arriving very late at night (SQ981 at 12:40am).
For me it wouldn’t make any sense to book such a flight no matter if I get a free Business Class upgrade or not. Paying an expensive hotel in Singapore and then checking in well after midnight?
It also requires this promotion going smoothly with the technical backing in place to emulate a proper upgrade list and then processing the upgrades at a certain point before departure.
The best tool to check if there is in fact still space available is the Experflyer tool and have this promotion printed. In case there is a problem I wouldn’t expect Singapore Airlines lackluster Customer Relations team to be very forthcoming. I definitely wouldn’t book a flight because of this unless precise T&C become available.
Even though SIA and Mastercard had similar campaigns in the past this is a strange promotion to say the least, especially because it’s impossible to find any further information about it. I really wonder how Singapore Airlines is going to process these upgrades at the airport and how they will create the upgrade list.
The T&C supplied by the email are extremely thin and even though it says specifically “Other terms and conditions apply.” it doesn’t provide any landing page where those would be visible. Do existing tickets qualify too? Questions over questions.
These are the Terms&Conditions of this campaign per email :
