Yours truly visited the Shangri-La hotel in Jakarta earlier this month that turned to a Compensation Clinic-piece.
Here’s what happened:
The electricity in the suite went off entirely at midnight. I first thought that it would be city/area-wide blackout and that the hotel back up generators would be humming soon.
After a while, I called the front desk, and there wasn’t an issue with electricity. They sent a couple of maintenance personnel to fix the problem. An hour and a half later, they gave up. The issue was something that they could not resolve. I packed and moved to another suite at two.
I had a discussion with a front desk manager about the issue and asked either 5,000 Golden Circle points or the charges waived. They agreed with the latter option, and the stay was entirely comped.
This was my first stay at this Shangri-La hotel in Jakarta. I usually try to check out hotels where I have not stayed at previously.
I got confused with the location of this Shangri-La with that of the Mandarin Oriental (close to the malls). The first suite was excellent and looked like it had been recently renovated. The Horizon Club interior, however, was from the 1990’s.
