American Airlines AAdvantage Eliminates Award Processing Fee

American Airlines eliminated on Wednesday (January 15, 2020) award processing fee that was collected from non-elite AAdvantage members.

This fee was $75 and applied to all award itineraries and upgrade requests from non-elite member accounts within 21 days of departure.

You can access AA here.

Here’s the update from AA:

Effective on or before January 14, 2020, a $75 fee will be charged for award tickets booked or mileage upgrades requested less than 21 days prior to departure

Effective January 15, 2020, no award processing fee applies.

Both Delta and United have previously eliminated with this fee, although United then instituted mileage increase on awards issued on short notice. Let’s hope that American doesn’t do that.
