MSC Cruises Voyager: Rare Cruise Line Status Match Opportunity From a Full Range Of Travel Loyalty Programs

One cruise line, MSC Cruises, is offering a rare opportunity within the cruise industry to process a status match into their Voyager Club with different elite levels.

Cruise lines usually don’t match elite status from other companies especially since the levels are usually good for life and quite expensive to obtain.

Since some cruise ships carry up to 6000 guests, having tons of elite passengers that are entitled to special benefits isn’t exactly in the interest of the cruise lines so matching status between each other for free was never really a thing.

MSC has started their status match program now in the quest of siphoning off customers from other lines. This is a site for Canada and USA but you can play around with the country sites or as far as the address is concerned google and enter any common hotel address. I personally provided my mailbox address in California.

Here you can see the different status levels Voyager Club has in their program.

The benefits can be quite useful and there is also a cruise credit as well as onboard credit for the higher status tiers Gold & Diamond.

What is especially interesting in this case: You don’t have to match from other cruise lines but also pretty much all major hotel loyalty programs and casino loyalty tiers.

Apart from all the other cruise lines programs MSC will also accept the following:

  • Club Med Membership
  • Expedia / Orbitz
  • Ctrip
  • Alipay

As well as the following Chinese airlines:

  • Air China
  • China Eastern
  • China Southern

Don’t ask me why MSC is focused on members of these China based carriers. Together with Ctrip and Alipay it appears that MSC is very China heavy. Maybe one of our readers can say something about the clientele on their ships!?

It’s a very broad range of memberships that are accepted for this match. I used my MGM MLife Noir and received a match to their highest (Diamond) level: in less than 24 hours:

Welcome Sebastian,

Thank you so much for reaching out to us, the document you sent is perfect. I would like to be the first person to thank you for participating in the Status Match program with MSC Cruises, and welcome to the Voyagers Club! You are now a Diamond card member and your number is XXXXXXX.

Please contact your Travel Agent to have the Voyagers Club discount added to your booking. Enjoy all your exclusive benefits right away, on your first cruise with MSC Cruises; just don’t forget to communicate your Club number at the time of booking.

As a reminder, the Status Match is a one-time courtesy to allow our guests to join us at a higher level than they might otherwise be able to. Once you’ve been matched, we’re not able to change your level by matching you again, but every cruise you take with us, as well as your on-board spending will add points to your account and increase or maintain your level.

You are required to cruise with us at least once every 3 years to retain your membership.

Thank you for choosing MSC Cruises. We look forward to welcoming you a board in the very near future.

Nice! That should come in very handy and the Diamond level usually requires A LOT of cruises in order to obtain it. I can’t help but wonder how those who earned it the hard way feel about this and how many cruisers on board end up having this status now.

Conclusion

I have sent in the status match request myself as I was recently offered a complimentary MSC cruise from a casino host. Maybe this will enhance the trip a bit more if I decide to go for it. I usually go on Celebrity Cruises or NCL so I have no experience with MSC at this point.

As mentioned above these matches are usually non-existent so I decided to apply and have a match processed as long as it’s still available.

These are the Terms&Conditions for the status match campaign:

MSC Cruises will only consider benefit cards from other Cruising companies, Hotels or Tour Operators. Airline Company benefit cards are excluded.

Matching is carried out by comparing as much as reasonably possible the level of benefits guaranteed from the external travel program benefit card with those offered by the MSC Voyagers Club cards. Conversion will be executed by MSC Cruises based on objective criteria and may only be done once per consumer. You can register to the Status Match by completing the online registration form available on msccruises.com. It is not possible to register during the cruise.

Everyone under 18 years of age cannot register to the Status Match. Applicants must allow up to 7-10 business days for status match to complete. Guests will physically receive their membership card once on board for their first cruise with MSC Cruises. It is not possible to combine MSC Voyagers Club points with points from the benefit card data of other cruise companies.

If a guest has benefit cards with multiple companies, he/she will have to choose which card to use to take part in the promotion. The MSC Voyagers Club card and membership will be subject to the terms and conditions of the MSC Voyagers Club.

A copy of the MSC Voyagers Club T&Cs is available on the MSC Cruises website. MSC Cruises reserves the right to reject any Status Match Request without any legal ramifications for legitimate reasons and to stop this program at any time.5% cruise discount applies on booking s made after the Status Match registration.
