IHG Rewards Club has surprised program members occasionally with birthday related bonus opportunities.
Birthday bonus has sometimes required a stay, and other times it has been bonus points deposited to your account after merely clicking the link on the email.

Conclusion
It may make sense to have your birthday on file with IHG as they sometimes send these bonus points offers to members. I have no idea how they choose the recipients. It could be that they reward frequent members or merely try to activate members who haven’t stayed for a while.
Good to know that IHG has decided to continue this tradition in 2020.

Just a heads up when you click the link you in effect register for the birthday offer just like say the Accelerate promotion. They then post the points 4-6 weeks later…at least that is what they say they will do.
Well it’s not a tradition for me. Even though I have my January birthday in the profile and celebrated my 20th year as a top tier and IHG Ambassador in January. I received nada, nothing, nix. Not so much as a thankyou for my long time and ongoing suffering/loyalty. Well at least I know how they feel about me.
