TAP is celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 2020 and is launching promotions for Miles&Go members to celebrate this milestone.

New members who have signed up since January 1, 2020, can register for a status match that comes with a challenge.

Members that have signed up for Miles&Go can match a status from the following programs:

Silver

Gold

Then comes the interesting part. For the match to be processed, Miles&Go members must either buy miles or sign up for their paid Club Miles&Go by March 31, 2020.

Status validity

The status is valid through September 30, 2020, and is extended (I would assume for 12 months) if following qualifying activity is achieved:

  • Gold: 25,000 status miles
  • Silver: 10,000 status miles

The number of miles required for one-way business class awards using Miles&Go is exceptionally high.

Conclusion

There has been chatter that Lufthansa and United would team up to buy a 45% stake in TAP. If this takes place, it is unclear whether the Miles&Go program stays or is integrated to Miles&More. In any case, the process will take a couple of years.

The Gold-status could make sense, depending on if you are willing to put up with some cash and buy TAP miles.

I would not, however, credit any flights to Miles&Go due to the number of award miles required for partner awards. There are better Star Alliance affiliated programs for earning and redeeming alliance wide than TAP’s.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

  1. For Clients to be eligible to take part in the TAP Miles&Go Challenge, they must provide a digital photograph of their partner programme membership card along with their application;

  2. This card must contain the following information: name, status/category and eligible validity;

  3. This card must be currently valid;

  4. Clients with Star Alliance company cards are not eligible;

  5. See the table above for information on eligible programmes and statuses;

  6. Only registered TAP Miles&Go Clients will automatically be eligible to participate in the Challenge from Mars 2, 2020.

  7. If you are already registered in the Program since January 1, 2020 you can participate in the Challenge by sending an email to promo@tapmilesandgo.com, with your name and TAP Miles&Go Client number, as well as your Customer Card from another eligible Miles Status/Program that proves you have a status that is the equivalent of the TAP Miles&Go status you are applying for.

  8. In addition to proving membership of an eligible partner programme, Clients are only eligible for Silver or Gold status upon joining a Club TAP Miles&Go (any one of the plans is valid) or by purchasing miles in the miles store (no minimum purchase) by 31 March 2020;

  9. Allocation of Silver or Gold status depends on meeting the eligibility requirements and upon validation of the TAP Miles&Go Programme application;

  10. Silver or Gold status is allocated for a period of 6 (six) months, until 30 September 2020;

  11. Notification of Silver or Gold status allocation will be confirmed by email, by April 20.

  12. It is possible to extend TAP Miles&Go Gold status acquired via the Challenge by earning 25,000 Status Miles by 30 September 2020.

  13. It is possible to extend TAP Miles&Go Silver status acquired via the Challenge by earning 10,000 Status Miles by 30 September 2020.

  14. TAP Miles&Go Silver or Gold status extensions will be valid for one annual accumulation period.

  15. Gold or Silver Star Alliance clients are not eligible to take part in these challenges.

What is the TAP Miles&Go Challenge?

The Challenge is available to new TAP Miles&Go Clients who are already members of selected other miles/status programmes and who are interested in finding out about the benefits of TAP Miles&Go Silver and Gold status. The TAP Miles&Go Challenge offers the chance for those who meet the requirements to temporarily obtain this status.

How do I take part in the Challenge?

When will I receive access to the benefits of the status for which I apply?

You will receive an email confirming your application, along with your digital Client Card by 20 April. You will have access to the benefits upon confirmation.

For how long will I have access to the benefits of the status for which I apply?

Until 30 September 2020. However, you can renew for an annual accumulation period if you meet the following conditions:

  • Earning 25,000 Status Miles (Gold);
  • Earning 10,000 Status Miles (Silver).
