Qatar Airways is the first of the Middle East-based airlines offering a status extension due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak that has dramatically affected travel.
Members can extend their status by six months by merely clicking through to Qatar’s offer page. Members also have six additional months to requalify to their current status.
You can access Qatar’s page to extend miles here.
Note that we are not aware of what is the landing page for this Extend My Tier on Qatar’s website.
Here’s the message that Qatar Airways is sending out:
We understand planning travel has been more difficult lately. That’s why we want to honour your loyalty as a valued Platinum member, ensuring matters beyond your control don’t impact your status with us.
Your Platinum tier will end on 30 April 2020. We want to ensure you have the full opportunity to achieve your desired tier status and are delighted to give you six additional months of Platinum tier to qualify.
Simply register in one-click, before 29 March and we will take care of the rest.
To enjoy your tier benefits, download, email or print an electronic version of your membership card from your dashboard after login.
Your need to visit the people and places you want, safely is of utmost importance to us and we value you and your continued loyalty. That’s why we’ve introduced a new travel policy, including award seats so you can travel with confidence, rest assured that it your plans change, your travel can too.
It is good that Qatar Airways is offering a status extension to its Privilege Club members. I am confident that many other airlines will take similar steps soon due to air travel coming close to a complete halt at select markets.
