Air Canada Aeroplan members can now buy and gift up to 500,000 miles every calendar year. The purchase transaction maximum is 250,000.
The purchase transactions are processed by another Canadian company Points.com that handles miles and points sales for several airlines and hotels, including United Airlines, British Airways, Marriott, and Hilton.

The price of a mile:
You can buy up to 250,000 Aeroplan miles per transaction at C$7,500. This comes at 2.09 US cents each.
I would assume that Points.com will eventually run similar campaigns for buying Aeroplan miles as they do with most airline and hotel partners. You should able to purchase miles during campaigns either at a discount or bonus. Time will tell.
Aeroplan was a separate company part of AIMIA (Air Canada sold it when in need of cash and brought it back last year). I guess that this was the reason why Aeroplan miles previously were not purchasable.
I like the fact that you can buy a significant amount of miles yearly. This can come handy once the current pandemic is over and we are back normalcy.

Buy and Gift Miles FAQs
Aeroplan is introducing two new products that will allow members to either buy miles and/or gift miles to another Aeroplan member.
1. What is the Buy Miles product?
Aeroplan members will now be able buy/purchase miles for themselves at any time, at a competitive market price. This will allow members to increase their Aeroplan miles balance.
2. What is the Gift Miles product?
Aeroplan members will now be able to purchase miles to gift directly to another Aeroplan member at any time, at a competitive market price. This will allow members to increase the Aeroplan miles balance of any other Aeroplan member.
3. How does Buy Miles differ from the Top-Up product offering?
Today, Aeroplan members can purchase miles to top-up their miles balance for a flight redemption while they are booking a redemption ticket. The Buy Miles product allows you to purchase and increase your miles balance at any point in time, not only during the redemption booking flow.
4. How does Gift Miles differ from the Transfer Miles product offering?
The gifting of miles allows an Aeroplan member to purchase and gift miles directly to another Aeroplan member, without deducting any miles from the donor’s Aeroplan account. With Transfer Miles, Aeroplan members can transfer miles from one Aeroplan account to another.
5. Do purchased miles count towards Aeroplan status or Air Canada’s Altitude program?
Purchased Aeroplan Miles are not eligible for Aeroplan status and do not qualify for the Air Canada Altitude program.
6. How can I gift Miles to another Aeroplan member?
To gift Aeroplan Miles to another Aeroplan member, you must provide their full name, Aeroplan number, and email address.
7. How many Aeroplan Miles can I purchase and/or gift?
You can purchase and/or gift Aeroplan Miles in increments of 1,000 miles to a maximum of 250,000 miles per transaction. You can purchase and/or gift up to a maximum total of 500,000 miles in a calendar year.
8. Are purchased and/or gifted miles refundable?
All purchases are final; miles cannot be refunded or exchanged.
9. Can the miles purchased and/or gifted expire?
Purchased and/or gifted Aeroplan Miles in an Aeroplan account expire if the Aeroplan Member has not accumulated or redeemed Aeroplan Miles for a period of 12 consecutive months.
10. How quickly will miles be deposited in the member’s account?
Purchased miles will be deposited within minutes, but in some instances can take up to 72 hours.
11. What payment types are accepted?
Members can complete their miles purchase with any of the following credit cards: Visa, American Express, or MasterCard
12. What vendor am I transacting with when I Buy and/or Gift miles?
Members complete the purchase and/or gift of miles with Points.com and therefore should expect their credit card to be processed by Points.com, not Aeroplan.
13. Which are the preferred browsers to purchase and/or gift miles?
To experience a seamless purchase, preferred browsers include Chrome, Firefox Internet Explorer, or browsers that do not block third-party cookies.

The following are the terms and conditions (“Terms and Conditions”) applicable to the purchase and/or gifting of Aeroplan Miles by Aeroplan Program members as part of the Aeroplan Program made available through Aeroplan, Inc. (“Aeroplan”). Once purchased, Aeroplan Miles will be governed by the General Terms and Conditions of the Aeroplan Program that can be found here. [In the event of inconsistencies between these Terms and Conditions and the General Terms and Conditions of the Aeroplan Program, these Terms and Conditions will prevail. You acknowledge and accept these Terms and Conditions by submitting your online request to purchase Aeroplan Miles from Points.com Inc., a corporation existing and resident in the Province of Ontario, Canada and located at 111 Richmond Street W, Suite 700, Toronto ON, M5H 2G4, Canada (Points.com). Your purchase request shall not be effective until accepted by Points.com. Acceptance by Points.com shall be evidenced only by the actual delivery of Aeroplan Miles into your account or the person you have given Aeroplan Miles to. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Points.com reserves the right to revoke or cancel any acceptance and cancel and reverse transactions as set forth below.
Aeroplan Miles prices are listed in Canadian Dollars and do not include applicable taxes. The total purchase price, any applicable fees as well as applicable taxes charged by Points.com, will be shown during check-out process.
Purchases of Aeroplan Miles are non-refundable.
Purchased Aeroplan Miles will generally be posted within 72 hours in a member’s Aeroplan account.
Any purchased Aeroplan Miles will not count toward qualification for any increased or improved status in the Aeroplan Program or Air Canada Altitude.
You may purchase and/or gift Aeroplan Miles in increments of 1,000 Miles to a maximum of 150,000 Miles per transaction.
Your Aeroplan account may be credited up to a maximum total of 500,000 Miles acquired through Points.com in a calendar year, whether purchased by you or gifted to you.
You may not sell, barter or otherwise conduct any unauthorized distribution of any Aeroplan Miles purchased hereunder. If any Aeroplan Miles purchased by you are resold, distributed or used for improper purposes as determined by Points.com or Aeroplan, in each case, in their sole and absolute discretion, or obtained through credit card abuse or fraud or other illegal means, Points.com may, at its option and with the assistance of Aeroplan, cancel, void, refuse to honor and/or confiscate such Aeroplan Miles and Points.com and/or Aeroplan may pursue any and all other rights and remedies that may be available. You agree that Points.com may debit your account or the account you have given Aeroplan Miles to in connection with the foregoing. You agree to fully cooperate with all reasonable requests of Points.com or Aeroplan concerning any investigation or prosecution of anyone engaging in or suspected of engaging in abuse or fraud with respect to the sale of Aeroplan Miles hereunder.
The purchase of Aeroplan Miles is not a guarantee of the availability of any Aeroplan Program rewards and neither Points.com nor Aeroplan shall have liability or responsibility where you are unable to use or redeem any purchased Aeroplan Miles.
You agree that the awarding and use of all Aeroplan Miles, including those purchased hereunder, are subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions and limitations of the Aeroplan Program, and that Aeroplan has the sole and exclusive authority and responsibility for operating, modifying, terminating and establishing the terms and conditions applicable to the Aeroplan Program. To the extent permitted by applicable law, these Terms and Conditions are governed exclusively by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada notwithstanding any principles of conflicts of law and you irrevocably agree that all claims, disputes or controversies shall be settled exclusively by the courts of the Province of Ontario.
These Terms and Conditions, together with your purchase request, constitute the entire agreement between you and Points.com with respect to the subject matter hereof and supersede all prior or contemporaneous agreements or understandings, if any, whether written or oral, relating to such subject matter. No modification, amendment or waiver of these Terms and Conditions shall be effective or binding unless made in writing and signed by Points.com.
Points.com or Aeroplan shall have no liability for delays or failure in its performance hereunder caused by any act of God, war, strike, labor dispute, work stoppage, fire, act of government, or any other cause, whether similar or dissimilar beyond its control.
