Hilton Coronavirus (COVID-19) Travel Waiver & Refund Update

Hilton earlier this week updated its coronavirus (COVID-19) Travel Waiver & Refund policy (read more here), and Honors members will see their status extended by a year (read more here).

Now, Hilton has made a small, but not insignificant, change to the policy on Friday, although they have not changed the policy update date.

You can access Hilton’s page for coronavirus policy here.

Here’s the update:

Existing Reservations. All individual reservations—even those described as “non-cancellable” (“Advanced Purchase”)—that are scheduled for arrival on or before June 30, 2020 can be changed or cancelled at no charge, up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival day.

New Reservations. Any individual reservations you make—even those described as “non-cancellable” (“Advanced Purchase”)—that are booked between today and June 30, 2020 for any future arrival date can be changed or cancelled at no charge, up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival day.

Previously, the policy applied to ALL reservations. Now, however, group and meetings ones are excluded. Only those that are booked by individual ones qualify.

Hilton Updated Global Travel Waiver & Refund For Arrivals Through June 30, 2020

Hilton Honors 2019 & 2020 Status Extensions Due To COVID-19 Pandemic

This is a minimal change, just an addition of one word, but it has significant meaning for those who have made a group reservation or an event with room block. Under the previous policy, they were all cancelable without a penalty, but now they are not included under this global waiver.

I am sure that most hotels don’t want to get on the wrong side of event organizers in the hope of having any chance of their business once this global pandemic is over. There must be hotels, however, that try to hold on to any dollar now without considering long term consequences.
