Singapore Airlines just sent out an email that partially deals with the topic that Sebastian wrote today (read more here) on weekly Whine Wednesday-column.
The email deal with coronavirus (COVID-19) related issues but also has some relevant information for KrisFlyer program elite members.
You can access KrisFlyer’s page for extension information here.
Here are the relevant parts from the email:
In view of the uncertainty amid the Covid-19 outbreak, the value of the unused portion of your tickets will be retained as flight credits when your flight has been cancelled or if you would like to postpone your travel. You can use those credits to make a new booking any time from now until 31 March 2021. We have also waived no-show and rebooking fees. Please contact us here when you firm up your new travel plans.
Remember that if Singapore Airlines canceled your flight or retimed it, you are eligible for a REFUND rather than SQ funny money that must be used by a specific date.
And status extensions:
I would also like to share that we will automatically renew all KrisFlyer Elite and PPS Club membership statuses for another 12 months at the end of their membership year. This applies to all memberships expiring from March 2020 through to February 2021. The validity of any expiring PPS and Elite Gold Rewards will also be extended until 31 March 2021.
Elite tiers that are expiring March 2020 through February 2021 are extended by 12 months.
Here’s the entire email:
It is disappointing that Singapore Airlines didn’t automatically extend the validity of the KrisFlyer miles by 12 months as well. SQ miles expire 36 months later after they were earned (monthly). Members can extend them once for another 12 months for reasonable cash payment.
The status extension is nice but won’t help members that would qualify for a higher tier during this period, but won’t due to flight cancellations.
I also find it disappointing that the airline doesn’t come clear when it comes to REFUNDS. The airline may try to push you to accept their IOU’s but demand cash.
Here are the T&Cs & FAQs:
