AL AL Matmid Frequent Flyer Club has joined Delta (here), United (here), Air Canada (here), and Alaska (here) by announcing member tier extension due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

A LoyaltyLobby reader with Platinum status just received the email below from EL Al that announced a 12-month status extension from the expiry date.

You can access EL AL here.

Note that it is unclear if EL AL extends all member tiers by 12 months because I couldn’t locate official information from the airline’s English website.

Here’s the email that EL AL sent out:

And translation by Google:

This is not a simple time for us all.

The Corona virus has caused an unprecedented global crisis affecting not only health, but also in the economy, many companies are affected, including El Al.

We know that your ability with us has also been affected Corona virus and understand the need for flexibility especially these days.

In recognition of your loyalty to El Al over the years, we have decided to preserve your platinum status at the frequent flyer club for another year has begun from the date your original status expires.

Your status is automatically extended and you can see its updated validity in your personal account now.

I want to wish you that the approaching Passover and Spring that he brings with him, will bring a quick return to the blessed routine, health, growth and renewal.

Wishing you a happy and happy holiday to you and my family

Gonen Ussishkin,

CEO of El Al

+ This year you will not be sent a Dua membership card kit, we invite you to log in to your personal account and keep abreast of the benefits you have

Conclusion

Good move from EL AL to keep frequent flier program members informed about the status extension in due course, lessening the anxiety some have.

I don’t think that hospitality sector loyalty programs have any other choice than extend tiers by a year due to all travel restrictions and plans in place right now.
