World of Hyatt Status Extensions Processed

Hyatt has been battling the Covid-19 pandemic as any other hospitality sector business by suspending operations, furloughing employees, and extending member tiers.

The hotel company first extended World of Hyatt member tiers for those in Asia-Pacific (read more here, here and here) before extending that to members worldwide last week (read more here).

My app had a notification on Saturday that I would have qualified for Globalist status per the image above, and the expiry state had been pushed through February 28, 2022.

Here’s Hyatt’s elite extension policy:

Park Hyatt Kyoto

That was first introduced for members in Asia-Pacific:

Hilton Honors (read more here), Marriott Bonvoy (read more here), and several airlines have already done the same.

I don’t believe that there is any other choice for the hospitality sector loyalty program than to extend members by a year if they wish to have any hope of bouncing back when this global pandemic is over.

The travel is mostly lost for 2020, considering all the travel and entry bans that are currently in place and not being withdrawn at anytime soon.

I wouldn’t have needed this extension as I will hit 60 nights before the end of this month due to “sheltering” at a Hyatt hotel.
