Avianca has been rather quiet what it plans with elite status extensions are due to toe Covid-19 pandemic that has grounded its flights.

LifeMiles today announced, however, that it pauses miles expiration from April 1 through to December 31, 2020.

You can access LifeMiles here.

Note that all miles that are due to expire between April 1 and December 31, 2020, will on the last day of this year.

Conclusion

It is unclear how Avianca is dealing with the current situation of grounded flights and no revenue coming in. The airline was already facing financial difficulties before the coronavirus, and its Brazilian arm (separate airline but same owners) collapsed in 2019.

Good that LifeMiles has decided to defer miles expiry through December 31, 2020. It will give some members more time to redeem them.
