Singapore To Allow Transit Passengers From June 2, 2020

Singapore began transit passenger ban on March 23, 2020 (read more here), only allowing citizens and permanent residents to return who were required to quarantine for 14 days upon the arrival.

Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) today announced that transit passengers would be again allowed starting on June 2, 2020, but stringent measures would be in place at the airport to combat Covid-19.

You can access Changi’s website here.

Here’s an excerpt from Channel News Asia (access their piece here):

Singapore will gradually allow travellers to transit through Changi Airport from Jun 2, as it prepares to ease some COVID-19 restrictions and reopen its borders.

“Stringent measures” will be put in place to ensure that the passengers remain in designated facilities in the transit area and do not mix with other passengers at the airport, said the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) on Wednesday (May 20).

Airport staff will also be required to wear personal protective equipment when interacting with passengers.

Existing precautionary measures, such as safe distancing, temperature taking for passengers and staff, will continue to be enforced, said the authority.

The airport has closed two of the terminals, and current daily flights (less than 10) operate from terminals 1 and 3:

There will be very little additional demand for flights once this transit ban is removed as no passengers are allowed to enter Singapore (unless they are citizens and permanent residents). Also, entry bans and quarantine requirements are in place in most countries.

This change, however, allows Singapore Airlines to start planning their flight schedules once countries slowly relax entry bans and lift quarantine requirements.
