Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus Status & Miles Expiry Extensions

Thai Airways has now come up with Royal Orchid Plus (ROP) tier extension policy due to the Covid-19 pandemic and further extends expiring miles.

ROS has pushed back the expiry of all miles in 2020 until December 31, 2021, and elite tiers are extended by a year or two.

You can access Thai’s new Covid-19 ROP policies here.

Miles Expiry

All miles that are expiring in 2020 has been extended through December 31, 2021.

Status Expiry

Members whose Silver, Gold, or Platinum status has or will expire between February 1 – December 31, 2020, will see it extended by TWO YEARS.

Members whose Silver, Gold, or Platinum status will expire in 2021 will see it extended by ONE YEAR.

Conclusion

I was surprised that Thai Airways hasn’t previously announced tier extensions for ROS members, although it doesn’t matter right now that much because the airline is in bankruptcy. It is unclear when the flights outside of repatriation ones will restart.

It is quite generous to extend tiers expiring in 2020 by two years and also all expiring miles through the end of 2021.

Thailand is currently closed for tourists arrivals, and it is unclear whether the country will welcome visitors before sometime in 2021.

Here are the terms of these extensions from Thai Airways:

The global spread of COVID-19 pandemic and suspension of THAI flights have been prolonged since April 2020. This situation may cause our members not to be able to use their miles for award redemption or use benefits from tier status as usual.

Because you are valuable to THAI and Royal Orchid Plus, so we specially extend expiring miles in 2020 and validity of tier status as follows.

Validity extension of miles:
Members who have expired or expiring miles in any quarter of 2020, these miles are valid for award redemption until 31 December 2021.

Validity extension of membership tier status:

– For Silver, Gold, and Platinum members whose status expired or will expire during 1 February – 31 December 2020, validity of your tier status will be specially extended for 2 years after the current status expiry date.
– For Gold and Platinum members whose status will expire during 1 January – 31 December 2021, validity of your tier status will be specially extended for 1 year after the current expiry date.

Members will be entitled benefits from your membership tier status, i.e. extra baggage allowance, complimentary upgrades and yearly award tickets using 50% reduced miles for redemption (for Gold and Platinum members only), with exception of the Threshold Bonus miles.

*Only members who meet the normal criteria for membership evaluation of Royal Orchid Plus or which of our co-brand credit card partners will be eligible for validity extension. Your membership tier status will be adjusted after the expiry date of the current one. This is an automatic process, no further action by members is required, so you do not need to contact us for extending tier status or mileage validity.

We hope the above extension can provide ample time for your plan to use mileage and tier status benefits. We look forward to having you on board THAI once again in the near future
