American Express has made a range of new points earning offers available for their Marriott Bonvoy Card portfolio, earning 10X (4-8 additional points per $ spent) from August 3 to October 31, 2020.
These offers are available on U.S. Marriott Hotel, restaurant and gas station purchases for eligible Marriott Bonvoy, Brilliant and Business Card Members and sign up is required on the Amex website under the offers tab.
As with all of the Amex Offers customers have to actively seek them out under the offers section of the website and enroll which is something that has always been a bit annoying to me, why not just sign up your customers automatically?
In any case the option to collect additional points are limited to U.S. based merchants of the following categories
- Marriott Group Hotels
- Gas Stations
- Restaurants

If your account is eligible to sign up you will see the options listed like this:
Cardholders can benefit for their purchases up to a total amount of US$7500 per category and earn the additional points for $ spent, bringing the total up to 10 points/$ which is a good ratio. Under this promotion the categories restaurants and gas station have received the most significant bonus.
Conclusion
Nice promotion for eligible cardholders thought not everyone is able to sign up for this. My account is eligible yet I’m not in the U.S. for the foreseeable future while a friend who is U.S. based isn’t showing any of these offers on his account and he’s pretty p’ed off by this.
Of course the reason behind this is that Amex wants to drive spend on their cards. Recent financial data from the U.S. showed that consumer credit card spend has pretty much crashed and been flat for several months, cutting into the bottom line of the credit card companies.
