Virgin Atlantic today announced changes to us Flying Club due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and these are all positive.
Tiers and various vouchers have been extended by 12 months, and vouchers are now less restrictive. Also, Flying Club members will earn tier points for award flights effective September 1, 2020.

Flying Club has previously extended member tiers by 6 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This has now been extended to a full year. Members will have two years to reach the required renewal requirement of 400 points to Silver or 1,000 for Gold.
Vouchers that have been previously extended by 6 months will see another 6-month extension to a full year.
Tier Points for Award Flights
Flying Club members will earn tier points (elite qualifying miles) for award flights on Virgin Atlantic metal effective September 1, 2020.
Here’s the tier points-earning schedule:
- Economy (A class) will earn 25 tier points (one-way)
- Premium (P class) will earn 50 tier points (one-way)
- Upper (G class) will earn 100 tier points (one-way)
Virgin Atlantic has streamlined the terms of various vouchers, whether they are issued through credit card partners or the airline itself.
Plaza Premium Access & LHR T2
Virgin Atlantic typically operates from Terminal 3 at London Heathrow that is temporarily closed. The airline has now made the Plaza Premium lounge at Terminal 2 available for eligible passengers.

Most other airlines had already previously extended their member tiers by a full 12 months. I like, however, how Virgin Atlantic has now made the qualifying period for the renewal essentially 24 months.
It would be great if more airlines would give tier points/elite qualifying miles for award flights as well when they collect high fuel surcharges. The easier you make the vouchers to use, the more cash the airline receives.
Here are the terms and conditions of these changes:
12 month extension – Gold
A new membership card will not be sent to cover the extra 12 months of the Extended Membership Year. The Extended Membership Year will be viewable online. The digital membership card can be viewed and printed online, or downloaded via the Virgin Atlantic app.

Members who have earned companion rewards, Clubhouse access or upgrades through the Virgin Atlantic Reward and Reward+ Credit Card, or the Virgin Atlantic World Elite Mastercard will have the validity of the voucher extended by 12 months e.g. if the voucher expired on 15 May 2020, the new expiry date will be 14 May 2021. Replacement vouchers will not be issued but will still be valid. This is for vouchers which are valid as of 13 March 2020.
Gold members who have earned a companion reward for renewing Gold status, Clubhouse passes for the 1500 tier point reward or the 2000 tier point upgrade reward will have these rewards extended by 12 months e.g. if the voucher expired on 15 May 2020, the new expiry date will be 14 May 2021. Replacement vouchers will not be issued but will still be valid. This is for vouchers which are valid as of 13 March 2020
