UPDATE: Marriott Bonvoy Status Match & Challenge 2020 (Technical Difficulties)

Marriott Bonvoy launched on Thursday a status match campaign with a challenge for members with elite status with Accor, Hilton, Hyatt, or IHG.

Marriott’s website was experiencing difficulties after this offer was launched due to higher than expected demand. If you were not able to complete the submission or the website errored out, you should try again now.

Here’s what we wrote about this offer earlier:

Eligible members will see their Marriott Bonvoy status elevated to Gold or Platinum for 90 days, during which they need to complete the challenge to keep the status through February 2022.

Note that Gold and Platinum matches are available for new or existing Marriott Bonvoy base and Silver members. Existing Gold members are eligible for the Platinum match.

It would be best if you acted quickly because Marriott will only extend this to an undisclosed number of registrants.

Your Marriott Bonvoy status is upgraded to Gold or Platinum for 90 days. You need to consume a minimum of 5 nights to retain Gold or 15 to retain Platinum through February 2022. Only paid nights count towards fulfilling the challenge requirement.

If you complete the challenge, the year count towards the lifetime requirement. The 90 day challenge period starts once Marriott has processed the match and upgraded the status.

Here are the matched programs:

1. Accor Live Limitless

Gold members are matched to Marriott Bonvoy Gold, while Platinum and Diamond members get Platinum.

2. Hilton Honors

Gold and Diamond members are matched to Marriott Bonvoy Platinum

3. World of Hyatt

Explorist members are matched to Marriott Bonvoy Gold while Globalist get Platinum

4. IHG Rewards Club

Platinum and Spire Elite members are matched to Marriott Bonvoy Platinum

Match Process

  1. You need to log into your Marriott Bonvoy account (create one if you don’t have).
  2. You need to indicate which of the four programs you have status with and at what level.
  3. Then you need to upload both proofs of the status level you have AND a hotel folio from that chain within the past 12 months.

Marriott Bonvoy Elite Benefits:

You should try to get your status matched to Platinum and complete the challenge. Platinum members are eligible for space available suite upgrades, confirmed 4 PM checkouts (no applicable to resorts & conference hotels), lounge access or breakfast, 50% bonus points, welcome amenity, and benefit guarantees.

Conclusion

It shouldn’t come as s surprise to anyone that there might have been pent up demand for status matched from Marriott’s program, especially now that it comes with a status upfront.

Programs have mostly moved away from matches and challenges that give you the elite status immediately, but Marriott Bonvoy has now brought it back.

This is an excellent offer for those Accor, Hilton, Hyatt, and IHG members that can get the Platinum match and then complete 15 paid nights over 90 days to keep it through February 2022.
