Reader Question: How To Keep Accor Live Limitless (ALL) Points From Expiring In 2021?

A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a question regarding how to keep Accor Live Limitless (ALL) points from expiring in 2021.

Remember to send us your questions and comments by email, and FacebookTwitter, or Instagram. We’ll try to cover them here several times a week.

You can access Accor here and a list of non-ALL participating hotels here.

Here’s the question from the reader:

I have some points from Accor/All that will be expiring on August 2021 and a gold status that will expire in December 2021.

The status I will lose because I will not be able to travel enough in order to keep the status and it’s ok with me.

What I am worried about is the points matter, and therefore I thought about paying one single night at a cheap hotel (Ibis Budget) near my house here in Rio de Janeiro and doing a mattress run – will this avoid my points from expiring?  How long will they be valid after that?

I would very much appreciate if you could advise me on this.

The travel sector will be depressed in 2021, and I wouldn’t be surprised if hotel and airline loyalty programs end up extending member tiers by another year. I would not count on losing the ALL Gold status in 2021 yet.

You have to be somewhat careful with the non-ALL participating hotels you can book on Accor’s platform.

Ibis Budget hotels in some markets such as Russia and South Korea are ALL participating; those in Brazil are not. You would neither earn any points for the stay that would not be qualifying.

There are plenty of ibis (non-budget) hotels in the Rio d Janeiro-area. I would book one of those when there are flat bonus points offers around, like right now (read more here) that would extend the expiry of points.

All airline, hotel, and other hospitality sector loyalty programs will do whatever they can not to lose elite members due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Elite members are far likelier to stay loyal and book direct than guests who are not. I would expect another round of status extension in 2021

The points expiry extension is easy, and there are many affordable options around Rio de Janeiro. I would book one for a staycation when there is a lucrative bonus offer available.
