TAP Miles&Go Club Sign Up: 132,000 Miles + Gold Status (6 Months) For $887

TAP, a Portuguese flag carrier based in Lisbon, launched an offer to new Club members who sign up or existing ones that renew by November 30, 2020.

Miles&Go Club members get 132,000 miles (over 12 months) and Gold status for six months by paying $887.

You can access this offer on TAP’s website here.

Miles&Go Club

TAP is running an offer until the end of November 30 that allows Miles&Go members to sign up for Club at the Platinum level with Gold-status for six months (maps to Star Alliance Gold).

You receive 36,000 miles at the time of signing up and then 8,000 miles monthly for 12 months. You receive a total of 132,000 miles by November 2021.

You normally have to earn 70,000 elite qualifying miles or fly 50 segments to get Gold status with Miles&Go.

Miles&Go sold 160,000 miles for the same price earlier this year, but that didn’t come with Gold status.

TAP has been very active in getting members to sign up for the Miles&Go program and then buy miles or Club-subscription.

This same package goes for 3,588 BRL in Brazil that is $671. You may need to have a CPF to sign up for Miles&Go to access this cheaper offer.

TAP continues to sell tickets to flights it won’t operate, and you are unlikely to see a refund. You will, however, receive a credit to use with the airline at a later time.

I would be hesitant to buy tickets, miles, or subscriptions from an airline whose bank accounts in Germany were seized due to failure to pay refunds & compensation mandated by the country’s courts.

TAP collects the cash here upfront. It takes 12 months for you to receive the miles you may be able to use in 2022. TAP pays to partner airlines only when the ticketed flights are flown, and the eticket is presented for settlement.

What is the Gold status worth for 6 months, if most of that period you are unable to use it due to travel bans and restrictions? There is no guarantee on the number of miles TAP Miles&Go will require for award tickets in the future.

I would stay away.
