Conrad Cartagena No More & Won’t Reopen

Conrad Cartagena, a hotel on Colombia’s northern coast, opened to great fanfare in 2018 only to exit the Hilton system last month.

The hotel had already been closed for some time due to Covid-19 travel restrictions and associated slump in demand. I have now confirmed from local sources here in Cartagena that the hotel won’t reopen as Conrad.

The hotel has removed all the furniture from the premises, indicating that it will be closed for an extended period OR the hotel is completely repurposed.

Here’s a review that Freddo filed from this hotel:

Hotel Review: Conrad Cartagena Resort & Golf Club [Cartagena, Colombia]

And a brief walk of the suite I had on my previous visit to the city.

I always find it amusing when hotels open for great PR and quietly fade away and exit without any note like the situation with this Conrad’s.

The hotel was probably not the right brand for the market and somewhat too much out of the city. Also, the service really wasn’t up to the standard that I would expect at a Conrad.

It is interesting what will become of this property. I would assume that it will reopen under another flag or be sold as timeshares or under some vacation club concept.
