Members may change or cancel Award Tickets before departure. No longer will changes and cancellations made within 72 hours of departure result in the loss of miles.

Cancellations are a common thing almost every traveler has to go through once in a while and Delta’s penalty of taking away all the miles used for the award was more than draconian.

Conclusion

Delta Sky Miles customers can now enjoy more flexible cancellation options even reaching into the day of departure without having to fear losing the entire award they redeemed. Fees for redeposit and reissue of a mileage ticket have also been set aside for now.

With this positive change Delta made a step in the right direction, giving customers more flexibility and align themselves with the industry standard that allows cancellation on mileage tickets to be flexible even if there is a fee associated with in some cases/programs (mostly waived at the moment under Covid policies).
