IHG Rewards Club earlier in the week further extended December 31, 2020, expiring free night certificates through August 31, 2021.
Points expiry waiver was paused through the end of 2020, and now the new expiry date for non-elite members is further extended through June 30, 2021.
You can access IHG’s page to check points expiry here.
IHG Rewards Club elite members’ points never expire, but how could you be one without any activity for 12 months?
Here’s the statement we received from the IHG spokesperson:
In order to provide members with increased flexibility, we have extended the pause on points expiration through June 30, 2021 for Club members. Points never expire for all members with Elite status (Gold, Platinum and Spire).
Here’s the email IHG is sending out to members affected:
The right thing for the programs is to extend the points, miles, elite tier, and certificate validity in this environment, not to lose or enrage members ready to travel when this pandemic is over.
Several readers have already reported that the expiry of points showing on their accounts is June 30, 2021, from December 31.
I wish that IHG would have done this earlier as many others have done. But better late than never, right?
