Hilton Honors, Marriott Bonvoy, and World of Hyatt all reward program members that hit a certain number of nights with bonus points, free night certificates, and other awards (sometimes you can choose).
IHG Rewards Club is apparently launching something similar in 2021 based on what was shown on the FT member’s account.

This looked close to a carbon copy of what Hilton Honors has now been offering for two years.
I contacted the IHG spokesperson to find out if this new Milestone Bonus is open to all members:

Conclusion
I guess that IHG must be testing how well these Milestone Bonuses work (do they drive additional revenue?) before launching them to the entire membership.
Personally, I always try to make sure that I hit the next hurdle before the end of the year if I am a night or two short. It is also easier to give business to programs that reward you on all stays and not just when there is a global promotion out.
