Marriott Bonvoy Bonus Goodwill Elite Night Credits Have Posted, Lifetime Status Counters Updated

Marriott Bonvoy previously announced that they will post goodwill nights to members accounts in order to reach a higher status this year, a total of 50% based on their 2020 qualification.

Marriott Bonvoy has already extended statuses until 02/2022 and the promised bonus Elite Night Credits have now started to post – some members including myself just made lifetime status as well.

Marriott has continued to let these goodwill nights count into the lifetime tier as well which pushed some members over the threshold for the lifetime counter of Silver, Gold or Platinum.

While the nights all counted to lifetime and are reflected already, the counter for the YEARS of the various tier level has not been updated yet, this typically takes place sometime in February of each year.

You can access Marriott Bonvoy here.

As per previous Marriott announcement the nights were supposed posted to the member accounts “by February” as well but most have received them in the past few hours – check your account!

Here is how it shows up on my own account:

Interestingly the app doesn’t reflect anything yet but logging in on the website displays the credit already. John’s bonus nights are visible in the app so I guess this is Marriott IT at work, not unusual – it should all align itself over night.

This is the chart to show how many nights members can expect:

Ambassador Platinum-gift

Ambassador members can gift a Platinum status to a friend of their choice. This offer activates once an Ambassador member has reached 100 nights this year, including the 50 nights bonus.

Annual Choice Benefit (at 50 & 75 Nights) – access here

Many members can now, after these bonus nights have posted, to choose their Annual Choice Benefit. You don’t have to wait for the email to arrive, but can click to the Marriott’s website and make your choice.

50 Nights

  • Add five Elite Night Credits to your 2020 total.
  • Save 40% on a bed from your favorite hotel brand.
  • Gift Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status to a family member, friend or colleague.
  • US$100 Charity Donation to WE.
  • Get five Suite Night Awards™ to redeem for upgrades to suites and premium rooms.

75 Nights

  • Add five Elite Night Credits to your 2020 total.
  • Save 40% on a bed from your favorite hotel brand.
  • Gift Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status to a family member, friend or colleague.
  • US$100 Charity Donation to WE.
  • Get five Suite Night Awards™ to redeem for upgrades to suites and premium rooms.
  • One Free Night Award worth up to 40,000 points.
  • Gift Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status to a family member, friend or colleague.

Together with the global promotion of double nights that starts in two weeks I feel members who put some effort into it will have the chance to obtain the tier level of their choice this year. And that won’t be the last promotion to help customers add up points/nights considering the hotel business is dead in the water for the better part of 2021.

Conclusion

This credit means that Marriott Bonvoy won’t further rollover status but offers half of the nights required to the previously earned tier as a bonus. Personally I consider this a very fair approach as it rewards customers who actually stay with Marriott at least a little bit.

This goodwill credit is especially useful for Platinum-members who receive 25 nights towards Titanium-level. Also, Titanium members with high spend, but not enough nights usually to reach the Ambassador-status may find it helpful. Reaching Ambassador even with the reduced spend threshold of $14,000. Many will now have an opportunity to choose a Choice Benefit-option at 50 and 75 nights that would otherwise be difficult this year.

This has finally pushed me to exactly 600 nights for my Lifetime Platinum status (counter already updated) and I can soon choose another free night award that would have otherwise been out of reach. It won’t push me to Ambassador because you need $14,000 spent in 2021 – hell will freeze over before I spend that much with Marriott in one year.
