British Airways issues upgrade and companion vouchers for Executive Club members reaching a certain number of Tier Points within their membership year and those swiping BA affiliate credit cards.

.BA extended the expiring certificates in October by six months (read more here) and has now given eligible members an additional six-month extension.

Here’s the update from BA:

I have a Companion Voucher, or Travel Together Ticket, earned through a British Airways credit card that I haven’t been able to use. Does the 6-month voucher extension apply to me?

All unused vouchers had a 6-month extension applied to their validity in March 2020 and in October 2020; we’ve now added a further 6-month extension to all vouchers that were due to expire before the 31 December 2021, giving members more chance to enjoy them.

We’re also adding an additional 6-months validity to all new Companion Voucher or Travel Together tickets earned between June 2020 and the end of December 2021.

I redeemed a Companion Voucher, or Travel Together Ticket, earned through a British Airways credit card on a booking that was changed or cancelled. Does the 6-month voucher extension apply to me?

If you’ve applied a Voucher, or Travel Together Ticket to a booking for travel from 1 March 2020, we have already applied a 6-month extension to your voucher. If your voucher was due to expire before 31 December 2021, we’ve also automatically added a further 6-month extension.

Should your flight(s) get cancelled or you defer your travel to a later date, the extended validity has already been applied and there is no need to request this.

Remember, you only need to book your trip or apply your voucher to an existing booking by the expiry date, for travel up to 12 months after.

Conclusion

Airlines and hotels don’t have any other choice than to keep extending expiring vouchers, especially in a case with BA from a country where all non-essential travel is prohibited, and most incoming air passengers need to quarantine for 10 nights in a hotel or at home.

Let’s see if I can use these three vouchers in the second half of 2021. I would give it a fifty-fifty chance.
