Hilton Renames “Express Saver” As “Honors Travel/Save”

We wrote a piece (access here) earlier this February about a new rate plan that had started to pop up for stays in the Americas called “Express Saver,” which tends always to be the lowest.

Hilton has decided to rename the “Express Saver” to “Honors Travel/Sale,” and the change took place this week. Conditions of the rate plan and the savings appear to be identical.

You can access Hilton Honors here.

Here’s the statement we received from the Hilton spokesperson regarding the Express Saver:

The Hilton Honors Express Saver rate provides members looking to book a near-term stay with maximum flexibility, by allowing them to change or cancel a reservation up to one day before arrival. As always, members have access to exclusive discounted rates when they book direct through Hilton preferred channels.

We have confirmed with Hilton that the Honors Travel/Save-rate is in the process of replacing the Express Saver for hotels in the Americas (North/Central/South).

Here are the rate rules:

You can change or cancel one day before without a fee. There is no prepayment requirement, but you need to guarantee using a credit card. Also, the early check-out fee is waived.

Here are some rate examples:

This is a great rate plan that appears to discount the Best Flexible-rate plan by roughly 20%.

You have to keep in mind that not all hotels participate and, at least previously, the Express Saver usually was available on short notice rather than weeks/months in advance.

It makes sense to check the rates closer to your stay to see if there are lower rate plans available.
